I’ve never thought of myself as a writer, although I do like writing. However, I do consider myself a lifelong learner given the many hats I wear (educator and mentor/ freelance facilitator and sometimes poet/ hiker and traveler). This online journal is the product of the two: my written reflections of certain aspects of my humbly exciting life that I thought would be nice to document.
In Career, you will find pieces tailored to fresh graduates and young professionals on what it means to work, to find work, and more importantly, how you might go about integrating it into your personal life. Many people have asked me about my career changes (very quickly: law student-public secondary school teacher-programme lead working with marginalized communities-learning and development coordinator in a MNC) and this is one way to contribute to the discussion surrounding the topic.
In Travel, you will find my humble attempts at travel writing. Even though I live in KL, I rarely spend weekends here, preferring to seek solace in other states. I think to myself, if we are to ever overcome differences in a country so divided, we must actively engage new experiences and acknowledge perspectives not of our own. Charmingly, with each new dot on the map I step foot in, there is much to learn not just about the place and people, but also about myself.
There is one last thing to know about me: I am very interested in the concept of cultural capital and its role - not just in socioeconomic mobility (hence my career interests) but also in how it can pave new paths for existing and being (hence frequent traveling). I jot down reflections here as a way of exploring that. As an optimist, I hope that I can play a small part as a bridge to facilitate open dialogue so as to make sense of the curious world we currently inhabit.
I will not ask you, dear reader, to be patient with me as I pour my thoughts out - I only ask that you treat words, both yours and mine, with kindness. Until then, till we may meet in person, and happy reading!
